Implant Injection
Bothersome wrinkles and sunken scars can be corrected using injections of natural substances or bio-implants. At present, there are several types of bio-implants to choose from:
Hyaluronic Acid Compounds
Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide that exists naturally in living organisms such as skin, synovial fluid and the basic substance of the connective tissue. As we age, the hyaluronic acid content of the skin decreases. The result can be loss of moisture and elasticity. Hyaluronic acid is a clear, gel-like fluid. Hyaluronic acids in humans and in animals are chemically, physically and biologically identical. Allergic reactions are therefore not expected. Injecting hyaluronic acid can compensate for the lack of moisture and lift the sunken tissue (wrinkles / scars) to the level of the surrounding skin.
Collagen
Collagen is a natural substance and is the main protein found in tendons, bones and connective tissue. The collagen used for injection is obtained from cattle skin. Those substances not tolerated by the human body are removed using special procedures.
Prior to treatment a small amount of collagen is injected into the skin of the forearm to test for possible allergic reactions. For about 4 weeks, the injection site will be carefully observed for symptoms.
If no allergic reaction occurs within the four-week trial period, the collagen preparation is injected with a fine needle under those areas of the skin that are to be corrected. Immediately after injection the skin swells slightly, just like during the test, reddens and is sensitive to pressure. The swelling usually subsides within 24 hours but can persist somewhat longer around the lips.
In most cases, wrinkles and scars can be considerably improved by injecting collagen or hyaluronic acid. However, in some cases long-term success is not achieved. If wrinkles are the result of facial muscle movement (e. g. forehead wrinkles, frown lines, etc.) they will reappear after a while. Occasionally, combined treatment with type A botulinum toxin is then recommended. Depending on skin type and the treated face area, the final effect lasts up to 6 months, although at times considerably less as the speed with which the body breaks down the injected substances varies considerably. However, in conjunction with type A botulinum toxin, bio-implants are broken down less rapidly.
Belotero® Implant Injection
We employ only selected techniques to eradicate wrinkles and to give our patients a fresh, youthful appearance. This also includes products made by Merz, such as the anti-wrinkle product Belotero®.
Citation from the Merz product leaflet:
"If you would like to get rid of wrinkles and folds, then you should find out more about Belotero®. Thanks to an innovative technology, it is now possible to carry out implant injections and lip augmentations very effectively and tailored to your individual needs. Belotero® is gently injected under the skin, disperses evenly throughout the tissue and plumps up from the inside. Belotero® stands for long-lasting cosmetic results characterised by a natural, attractive appearance, smooth transitions, along with an impressive immediate effect.
An allergy test is not required, as the multi-cross-linked hyaluronic acid in Belotero® exists in its original form in the human body. It is therefore well-tolerated and, without any complications, broken down by the body after a period of time."
